"Survivor" for local high-tech firms by screening candidate firms, coaching them, and presenting the two finalists before you and a panel of experts. Come and experience "DC Discovery" with the ForumPresenting Companies are:
Main: Atlantic Biomass Conversions, Inc. Robert Kozak, President Mini: TaxScan Technologies, LLC Chris Hopkinson, President
Atlantic Biomass is dedicated to making biofuel production both profitable and environmentally sustainable. We will accomplish this by producing low-cost, biomass-processing systems that will enable biorefineries to directly convert virtually all components of low-cost “energy” crops and agricultural residuals into high-energy gasoline and diesel equivalent fuels. Right now we are developing the first commercial application: conversion of low-value sugar beet pulp into feedstocks for JP-8 jetfuel for the U.S. Military. As Energy Secretary Sam Bodman noted on 27 June 2007, “the nation’s current ethanol industry was unsustainable given that it already was using one-fifth of the nation’s corn crop as feedstock.” Therefore a sustainable US biofuel industry will require low input high yield crops, grasses and agricultural residues as feedstocks.
TaxScan™ Technologies, LLC is developing a patent pending software product that reads and recognizes scanned tax forms (W-2s, 1099s, etc.) extracts the necessary tax data and imports it directly into professional tax preparation software (i.e. TurboTax, H&R Block, etc.) for instant filing. TaxScan™ eliminates the need to manually enter standard tax information; saving valuable time, reducing common data entry errors, and allowing for the documents to be digitally saved and stored rather than kept in bulky filing systems. A professional tax preparer can process an average of three times more returns per hour using TaxScan ™ compared to the current typing process. A beta will be complete in November and Liberty Tax will be one of the beta testers.
